「エスケープシーケンス（英語では escape sequence）」とは、2つ以上の文字（記号）によって構成されるもので、表示される文字とは異なる意味を持つ。
PHPの場合、「￥」もしくは「\（バックスラッシュ）」の後に任意の文字を組み合わせることで「エスケープシーケンス」を作る。
